MEADVILLE — Merle (Bob) R. Gawne, 77, of 16348 Carr Hill Road, Meadville, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Erie VA Medical Center.

Bob was born in Meadville on June 19, 1936, a son of the late Douglas F. and Ruth (Kohler) Gawne.

Bob was employed by the Electrical Workers Union out of Cleveland, Ohio. A U.S. Navy veteran, Bob entered the U.S. Navy on Oct. 11, 1954, serving his country honorably until his discharge on Sept. 10, 1958. He went on to serve an additional four years in the Navy Reserves.

He was a member of the Hill N’ Gully Riders where he spent a lot of time riding his Honda motorcycle. Bob loved being an aviator, owning his own plane and maintaining his pilot’s license. He also enjoyed being a car buff, camping and traveling, especially to the AirVenture Oshkosh Air Show.

Bob is survived by a brother, Edgar Gawne of Cortand, Ohio; a niece; and several nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas F. Gawne Jr.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
