AUBURN, Wash. —
Stephen Wayne Bortner, 55, of Auburn, Wash., passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Meadville on April 24, 1958, he was the son of the late William Bortner and Patricia (DeDomenic) Bortner Jones.
In addition to his girlfriend of 11 years, Julie Ware of Kent, Wash., he is survived by a son, Ian Sky, and a daughter, Emma Elizabeth, both of Washington; a brother, Doug Bortner of Kentucky; a sister, Beth Dahlgren, a niece, Leann, and a stepfather, Jack Jones, all of Meadville; and several aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Steve enjoyed doing crosswords, his cats and was an avid Seahawks and Steelers fan. His real passion was music, his gifts were playing the bass and singing. His music started during his years in the honky tonks in Texas and he played in many different bands there before moving to Washington where he formed his own band, 39 Fingers, and also played with Sanctus.
His spirit was one of kindness, gentleness and compassion. He will be sadly missed by everyone who ever knew him.
A Celebration of Life was held at City Hall in Cumberland, Wash., on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, from 4 to 11 p.m.
