Earl Leroy Boughton

SAEGERTOWN — Earl Leroy Boughton, 93, of 20881 Route 198, Saegertown, formerly of Venango and Harmonsburg, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Earl was born in Endicott, N.Y., on May 12, 1921, a son of the late Earl Edwin and Lillian Westerfall Boughton.

On Oct. 25, 1943, Earl married Evelyn Ella Daniels; she preceded him in death on June 18, 2008.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Meadville for many years.

Following more than 30 years of employment, Earl retired from the former Conrail Railroad where he was employed as a foreman in the Car Shop. He previously had been employed by Erie Lackawanna. A veteran of World War II, Earl served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS WASP. He was a former member of the National Campers and Hikers Association (NCHA) where he enjoyed traveling to camping conventions in many different states with his wife, Evelyn. For 22 years, Earl traveled to Texas with his wife to spend their winters until 2007. Earl loved camping, was an avid painter, enjoyed going square dancing and collecting model railroads. He had several model train boards displaying his different trains and tracks. One of Earl’s favorite pastimes included compiling genealogy trees for both his wife Evelyn’s family and his family.

Earl is survived by a daughter, Linda Elaine King and her husband, Bob, of Harmonsburg, with whom he lived for the last four years; two grandchildren, Heather Ruhl and her husband, Mark, and Mike King and his wife, Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Jarrot and Hailley Ruhl and Annabelle King; two brothers, Clyde Boughton and his wife, Doris, and Crosby Boughton and his wife, Ruth, all of Susquehanna; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Boughton of Venango; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Evelyn, of 64 years, and his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Allen Boughton; a great-grandchild, Victoria King; a brother, Douglas Boughton, and a sister, Joyce Testa.

At the family's request, there will be no visitation.

A memorial graveside service will be held for both Earl Leroy Boughton and his wife, Evelyn Ella Boughton, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, Ill. 60693; or First Baptist Church of Meadville, 353 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.

The family would like to thank the staff of Crawford County Care Center for their wonderful support and care, especially those on the green wing.
