Norma Greenfield Cote

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — Norma Greenfield Cote, born Dec. 4 1938, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

In 1978 she was married to J. Gerald Cote and combined two loving families.

Norma was born in Meadville to Howard and Leona Greenfield. She graduated from Conneaut Valley High School in 1956. Norma earned her degree in nursing from Meadville City Nursing School in 1961 with the Florence Nightingale honor. She worked in Gulf Breeze, Fla., and taught nursing at Pensacola Junior College (PJC) prior to moving to Ft. Walton Beach. Norma worked at Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center for 12 years, becoming its head nurse of the Mental Health Unit. She retired from nursing in 1992. Immediately following her retirement, Norma became extremely active in her church by volunteering for any need requiring her help. Her retirement also allowed her to devote time to her love of painting.

Norma and Jerry shared a love for boating by being members of the Eglin Yacht Club and the FWB Power Squadron. She thrived on supporting her husband during his duties as the power squadron commander by entertaining visitors and accompanying him on visitations to other squadrons.

She is preceded in her death by her loving parents, Howard and Leona Greenfield; and daughter Jackie Smith.

She is survived by her brothers, John and Howard Greenfield; sister, Christine LaVigne; daughter, Suzy Hanzlik and husband, Dennis; grandchildren, Madison, Isabelle and Kendall; son, Scott and wife Michele Smith; daughter, Jan and husband, Michael Fitz; grandchildren, Brett and Heather; and great-grandchildren, Colin and Elliot Fitz-Dillow; daughter, Jody and husband, Randy Caldwell; grandchildren, Brandon and Kelly Joy; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kamryn Joy and Georgia Caldwell; daughter, Jeri Banchi; and grandson, Corey; and grandson Shannon Smith.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Manski and ICU nurse, Jenna, and CCU nurse, Megan, for their loving care in our time of need.

Funeral services were held at St. Simon Episcopal Church On The Sound on Aug. 1 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Simon Episcopal Church.

Arrangements were under the direction of Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Ft. Walton Beach. Expressions of love and sympathy may be viewed online at emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com.
