MEADVILLE — Joseph Barretta, 85, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born June 26, 1927, in Meadville, a son of Pietro Barretta and Rosalia Lupo Barretta. He married Vivan Green; she preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and was activated during the Korean War in Germany serving with the U.S. Army.

Joseph retired from the Erie Lackawanna Railroad where he was a paint shop foreman and was involved with the National Heavy Mortar Company.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Italian Civic Club and Marine Corps League.

He spent the last 10 years wintering in Florida.

Joseph is survived by three brothers, Sam, Benny and Tony Barretta; a sister, Anna Ambrose; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Peter Baretta; and four sisters, Rosalie Fera, Elizabeth Sturm, Cira Barretta and Marian Barisano.
