He was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Pittsburgh, to Marie Johnston Cooper and Ralph B. Cooper. After the death of his mother in December 1941, he moved to Meadville and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Homer and Sarah Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Darlene; an infant son, David; a sister, Shirley Roberts; and two nephews, Jimmy and Dawson Roberts.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 Route 6, Linesville. The family will receive friends on Saturday before the service from noon to 2 p.m.
