MEADVILLE — Irene Stainbrook, 93, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community for the past four years, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the home. Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Richwood, W.Va., she was a daughter of John and Belva Phillips Thompson.

She married Bernard Stainbrook on Jan. 15, 1938, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1965.

She worked at the former Shryocks and also in respiratory therapy at the former Meadville City Hospital.

Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, ceramics and watching both boys and girls basketball. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Pettis, Cochranton Volunteer Fire Department Station 4 and the Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars where she served on the Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters, Carole M. Ward and her husband, William, of Saratoga, Wyo., Donna E. Choffel and her husband, John, of Cochranton, and Janet R. Girardat and her husband, Harold, of Cochranton; nine grandchildren, Tambra Hobson of Casper, Wyo., Ralph Porter Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Conneautville, Tina Steinbeck and her husband, Bob, of Cochranton, Denise Pyle and her husband, Tom, of North East, John Choffel Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, of Cochranton, Denille Girardat Myers and her husband, Lee, of Cochranton, Christa Egli and her husband, Gary, of Cochranton, DuWayne Stainbrook and his wife, Jessica, of Pittsburgh, and Amy Stainbrook of West Chester; six great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Pauline Egli.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, John, and mother, Belva Phillips Dolan; two sons, Merle DuWayne Stainbrook and Paul Stainbrook; a grandson, Travis G. Girardat; a brother, Harold Thompson; and a sister, Kathleen Keesling.

Friends may call at Dickson Family Funeral Home Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday from the funeral home, with the Rev. Phillip Torre of First Assembly of God Church officiating.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Memory Support Unit of Wesbury and ask that memorials be made in Irene’s name to the unit at 31 Park Ave., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
