Ruth Lelia Ewig

CONNEAUTVILLE — Ruth Lelia Ewig, 87, of Conneautville, died peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 19, 1925, at home in Beaver Center. She was the daughter of the late Rell Hague and Martha Thompson Hague.

She graduated from Conneautville High School in 1942 and Meadville Commercial College in 1944. She then worked in the office of Champion DeArment until marrying Otto Ray Ewig on April 21, 1945. He preceded her in death Feb. 8, 1989. She retired in 1989 from Molded Fiber Glass in Linesville after 25 years.

She was an active member of Linesville First Baptist Church. She was deeply committed to her church and her church family as evidenced by her service on various boards including several terms on the Diaconate Board. She particularly loved working with young people and taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was raised in a Christian home where faith in God was evident in daily living, and her life was an unwavering example of that faith to her family and all who knew her. Ruth held deep honor and respect for her neighbors and community. She was a member of Harmony Grange and spent eight years as secretary. She served as Beaver Township auditor for eight years. She served on the Beaver Township Board of Elections for many years. She was also heavily involved with the “BC’s” (Beaver Center Civic Club), serving as its past and present president.

Ruth was a very devoted mother and grandmother who loved time spent with family. She took pride in her home, always keeping a beautiful garden, lawn and flower beds. She will be remembered as always willing to lend a hand to friends, neighbors and those in need, and for always having the front row seat at auctions.

Ruth is survived by a son, Larry (Sharon) Ewig of Conneautville; two daughters, Linda (Dennis) Rote of Augusta, Ga., and Janet (Steve) Katulich of Leonardtown, Md.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by a son, Dennis G. Ewig; a daughter, Laurie Ann Prenatt; a sister, Johanne Hague; and a brother, Leonard Hague and his wife, Kate.

Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at White-Cool Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Linesville First Baptist Church, 6114 State Highway 6, Linesville, with Pastor Art Barnes officiating.

Interment will follow in Beaver Center Cemetery.

The family asks that memorials be made to Linesville First Baptist Church.
