Howard L. Beers, 80, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Grand Valley, a son of Marion and Mary Earle Beers. On Oct. 14, 1967, he married Helen Easley; she survives.
He was employed by Channellock and PPG and retired from PPG as a furnace operator.
Howard was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict.
He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 of Meadville, served with the VFW Color Guard and American Legion Post 381 of Cambridge Springs.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
In addition to his loving wife, Helen, of 45 years, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Beers of Sharpsville; a son, Robert Beers and his wife, Michelle, of Titusville; three grandchildren, Andrew, Karissa and Josh Beers; three sisters, Mary Williams of Titusville, Ruth Beers of Plainville, Conn., and Beverly Sayre and her husband, William, of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Paul Beers of Linesville and Ralph Beers of Conneaut Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Beers; sister, Gertrude Hatton; and an infant sister, Eleanor.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at the funeral home at 11 a.m., with Father Johnathan Schmolt, pastor of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2006 Color Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, 1045 S. Morgan St., or St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., both of Meadville, Pa. 16335.
