VOLANT — Kevin Carter Gills, 15, of Springfield Township, Volant, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. He was born in Grove City on June 20, 1998, to Kevin Edward Gills and Amy Suzanne Johnston Gills.

He was a student of PA Cyber School and had previously attended school in the Mercer Area School District. He loved being with his little brother, Logan, spending time with his family fishing and camping in Tionesta, being with friends, listening to music, playing computer games like XBox, riding his bike, being outdoors, and spending time with his dogs and cats. He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his mother, Amy S. Johnston of Volant; his father, Kevin E. Gills of Mercer; a brother, Logan Donald Gills of Mercer; his maternal grandmother, Roxann Johnston of Volant; maternal grandfather, Carter (Beverly) Johnston of Sharpsville; paternal grandmother, Jane Gills of Mercer; three aunts, Ruth (Erik) Wagg of Greeley, Colo., Wendy (John) Hilson of Meadville and Tina (Brad) Sterner of Mercer; and six cousins and two great-cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Gills.

There will be a private service at Smith Funeral Home, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant, with Pastor Lester Rowan of the Wayside Community Church presiding.
