Candace Ann Hargenrater, 52, of Saegertown died at her farm Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
She was born Feb. 21, 1961, in Lockport, N.Y., a daughter of John and Lillian Elaine Dietz Bertschy.
She was a graduate of Meadville High School and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a special needs teacher at Meadville Area Senior High School. She loved her farm, Dream Acres, and farming, raising cattle and pigs. She would bring her students to her farm for animal assisted therapy.
She is survived by three children, Tyson Holt Hargenrater and his wife, Crystal, of Meadville, Lucas Jacob Hargenrater of Saegertown, and Stevie Lane of Saegertown; four grandchildren, Hannah, Teagan, Tyson and Gauge Hargenrater; her father, John Bertschy; two sisters, Kimberly Bertschy and Kelly Springer-Hurley; a brother, Steve Bertschy; nieces and nephews; and all of her beloved students.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Autism Society, 4340 East-West Highway, Suite 350, Bethesda, Md. 20814.
