LaVerne M. Paraskos

LINESVILLE — LaVerne M. Paraskos, 82, of Linesville, went to her heavenly home  Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Meadville Medical Center.

Born June 4, 1930, in Bossier City, La., she was the daughter of Juan and Theresa Perez Guerrero and grew up in the southwest. She married George C. Paraskos and they raised a family of four children.

In high school she was a star athlete in track, basketball and baseball.

Professionally LaVerne was a registered nurse and a nutritionist. She had served on the Conservation Commission in Lowell, Mass. For many years, she volunteered with various veteran organizations and served on the Board of Directors for the Linesville Volunteer Fire Department. She was involved in the Senior Citizen Programs while living in Massachusetts. Also, she enjoyed working with the Salvation Army for many years.

She was heavily involved in her children’s school programs and activities serving on many committees and as the president of their PTAs. She was instrumental in running many successful fundraisers for the schools her children attended. LaVerne was a supporter and advocate for St. Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota. She loved reading, doing needlework, cooking for her family and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed the outdoors going camping, hunting and fishing.

LaVerne was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. Her greatest joy in life was her four children and she took great pride in her four grandchildren. Her family was her whole world and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, George C. Paraskos; Denise Pouliot and her husband, Ronald, Madeira Paraskos and Sonya (Peppe) Paraskos all of Linesville; four grandchildren, Amber, Benjamin, Christopher and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.
