CONNEAUT LAKE — Catherine (Kate) R. Boyd, 84, of Conneaut Lake, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at UPMC Horizon, Greenville.

She was born June 27, 1928, in Meadville, a daughter of Carl J. and Ethel C. Sheriff Engels. She married C. Lewis Boyd on June 9, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2005.

Kate was a 1946 graduate of Meadville High School and was a graduate of the Orra-Jean Beauty Academy in Erie. She worked for five years as a beautician at the Ardis Beauty Salon and was a homemaker.

An active member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, Conneaut Lake, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Care and Concern Committee and the church choir.

Kate was a 4-H leader for 19 years, former Girl Scout leader and member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, needlework, gardening, traveling, and most of all, time spent with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Survivors include four children, Caroline Bitting and her husband, H. Brian, of East Greenville, LuAnn Carter and her husband, Peter, of Goffstown, N.H., Robert P. Boyd of Conneaut Lake and Nancy Miller and her husband, Randy, of Conneaut Lake; five grandchildren, Shannon Panella and her husband, Joseph, Andrew Bitting, Lt. Nicholas Bitting, Savannah Miller and Chaney Miller; a great-granddaughter, Elliana Panella; two sisters, Lucille Engels Albaugh of Meadville and Frances Engels Main of Chandler, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Eleene Boyd; and two brothers, Robert L. and Charles W. Engels.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake, with Fr. John Lucas as celebrant.

Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.
