NEW CASTLE —
Albert S. Fleischer Sr., 88, of Bonzo Street, New Castle, passed away the morning of Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Jameson Hospital.
Born in New Castle on Nov. 16, 1924, Albert is a son of the late George and Martha Kreusel Fleischer. Preceding him in death in 1999 is his wife, the former Kathryn Reiter.
Albert was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He retired from Mesta Machine Corporation, where he worked as a crane operator, and from Sylvan Heights Golf Course, where he worked as a caretaker.
Albert enjoyed fishing, music and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He cherished the times he spent with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Jon Fleischer and his wife, Sherry, of Meadville, Albert Fleischer Jr. and his wife, Marlene, of West Pittsburg, and Bruce Fleischer of New Castle; two brothers, Paul Fleischer and Francis Fleischer, both of Florida; his sister, Dorothy Patterson of New Castle; six grandchildren, Shannon Horvath (Mark), Natasha Mitcheltree (Don), Leigh Fleischer, Christopher Fleischer, Jeff Ferguson (Kari), and Jon Fleischer Jr. (Kathryn); and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Albert is preceded in death by two brothers, George Fleischer and Karl Fleischer; a sister, Sophie Fleischer; three infant siblings; and three great-grandsons, Tanner J. Mitcheltree, Hunter Horvath and Travis Horvath.
Visitation is Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St., New Castle.
Services will be held on Monday at noon at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Bupp. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Oak Park Cemetery.
