Boyd (Butch) Eugene Reed, Sr.

CONNEAUTVILLE — Boyd (Butch) Eugene Reed, Sr., 87, of Conneautville, passed away at Meadville Medical Center on Friday, June 28, 2013.

He was born in Dora on February 28, 1926, a son of Raymond Ray Reed and Mamie Myers Reed.

Boyd attended Meadville schools and he held many jobs but spent most of his years working his farm with his wife, Mary, raising pigs and chickens and selling eggs along many routes.

Boyd enjoyed summer holidays when he would build a fire to roast hot dogs and marshmallows and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed going to Niagara Falls to play the slots. He will be sadly missed.

Butch served in the US Army during World War II. He hunted and trapped beaver and muskrats in his younger years.

Boyd married Mary Ellen Locke on Dec. 4, 1945. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2011.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Boyd Eugene Reed, Jr.; an infant brother, Howard; a sister-in-law, Rosie Nichols and her husband, Bruce; a brother-in-law, Donald Schreck; and a sister-in-law, Alice Reed.

He is survived by a son, Larry Reed of Conneautville; three daughters, Nancy Reed of Conneautville, Janice Ferguson and Steve Vozar of Meadville, and Donna Patton and her husband, David, of Conneautville; one grandson, Robert Patton and his wife, Melissa, of Steubenville, Ohio; a sister, Mary Schreck of Meadville; two brothers, Ray Reed of Meadville, and James Reed and his wife, Barbara, of Sandy Lake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are welcome to call on Monday, July 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 2 at 11 a.m. with David Patton, officiating.

Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Vernon Township.
