Shirley M. Messerall Glaz

SAEGERTOWN — Shirley M. Messerall Glaz, 72, of Saegertown, and formerly of Titusville, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday evening Aug. 14, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation following a courageous battle against multiple myeloma cancer.

She was born March 21, 1941, in Titusville, a daughter of the late John G. Messerall and Joy Conway Messerall.

After attending St. Walburga Grade School and St. Joseph High School, she graduated from Titusville High School in 1959.

Shirley formerly held several sales positions over the years, most recently with Heilig Meyers Furniture of Franklin.

Shirley was a former member of the Titusville Garden Club and St. Walburga Church Altar and Rosary Society. She was an Avon representative for several years while living in Titusville.

She and her husband, Gene, enjoyed spending the winters in The Villages, Fla., with Shirley’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Connie Petulla. She and her husband were members of the Polish Club and Chula Vista Club when residing in Florida.

She was a member of St. Bernadette Mission of Saegertown where she was active in her church when she was healthy as she was in her former church St. Walburga of Titusville. Shirley enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by the love of her life with whom she recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, June 22, 1963, in Titusville, Eugene Glaz of Saegertown; two daughters, Christine Askey and her husband, Robert, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sherri Shaffer and her husband, Christopher, of Yorktown, Va.; four grandchildren who adored her, Alexa and Trent Askey, and Rachel and Tyler Shaffer; two sisters, Nancy Sines and her husband, Carl, of Titusville, and Gloria Lander and her husband, Fred, of Cambridge, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:15 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernadette Mission in Saegertown, with Father David L. Poulson, pastor, as celebrant.

The family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to St. Bernadette Mission, 222 Renner Lane, Saegertown, Pa. 16433.

Arrangements are under the direction of Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home Inc., Titusville.
