Martin Hansen

MEADVILLE — Martin Hansen, 93, of Meadville, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there Friday, March 15, 2013.

He was born in Meadville on Jan. 8, 1920, a son of Harry and Christina DeFreese Hansen. He married Harriette (Betty) Knickerbocker on Dec. 25, 1945, and she survives.

He worked as a salesman for Meadville Bread Co. and then Firch Baking Co. for 46 years, retiring in 1985.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939 to 1941. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Tennessee (BB43) in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Meadville; the Civilian Conservation Corps Chapter 125, New Castle; the USS Tennessee Reunion Association; the American Battleship Association; Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111 of Meadville; and the National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni (NACCCA).

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Betty, of 67 years, include two daughters, Linda Brady and her husband, E. Scott, of Meadville, and Brenda Andrey and her husband, W. Bruce, of Meadville; two grandchildren, Matthew Andrey and his wife, Stephanye, of Meadville, and Heather Morrell and her husband, Christopher, of Meadville; a great-grandson, Colton Christopher Morrell; a sister, Carrie DeCrapio of Meadville; and nephews and nieces including Turid Thursrud and her husband, Odd, of Oslo, Norway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Hansen, Ralph Hansen and Jim Hansen; and two sisters, Myra Hansen and Rose Snider.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

Additional calling hour will be Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., with the funeral following at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Walton, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment, with military honors provided by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 of Meadville, will be in Greendale Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 353 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
