SLIPPERY ROCK — Renee Elaine Wilson Semerod, 77, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Meadville, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014.

Born in Albion on Jan. 23, 1936, she was a daughter of James E. and Florence Peck Wilson.

Renee graduated from Meadville Area High School in 1954. She married Frank Semerod on Sept. 23, 1954, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

She was a loving wife, sister, devoted friend and caring mother to daughter, Cindy, who had cerebral palsy, and her daughter, Cathy, and grandmother to her grandsons, Kelly and Christopher. She was an active volunteer in many community organizations while residing in Meadville. She also worked as a waitress in several of the finest restaurants in Meadville throughout the late 1960s and ’70s. Frank and Renee retired to Slippery Rock in 1997. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grove City.

Renee enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, reading and taking care of others. Her spirit was one of kindness, gentleness and compassion.

In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by her daughter, Cathy Chutz and her husband, Wayne, and grandson, Christopher Chutz of Grove City; sister, Sharon Sheetz of Fletcher, N.C.; and brothers, Richard Wilson and his wife, Lorraine, of The Villages, Fla., and Neil Wilson and his wife, Jacqueline, of Painesville, Ohio; in addition to several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her daughter, Cindy Marie Semerod; and her grandson, Kelly Edward Chutz.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cunningham Funeral Home, Grove City. A private service will be held at a later date.
