John J. (Jack) Hindman, 81, of Venango Township, Boyers, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, 2014, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born in Meadville on May 26, 1932, he was a son of the late Ernest L. and Lola Jean McFadden Hindman.
Mr. Hindman was employed more than 25 years as a heavy equipment operator with Local 66 Operating Engineers.
He was Protestant by faith.
Jack was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of private first class, having served from June 1949 to October 1952. He was a longtime member of Paul W. Wood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7840 of Hilliards.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Elder of Emlenton and Pam (Rick Page) Hindman of Utica; three sons, Ernie (Becky) Hindman of Parker, Tim Hindman of Boyers and Dan (Leona) Hindman of Harrisville; nine grandchildren, Stormie, Cheyenne, Joshua and David Hindman, Melissa Shearer, Heather Slater, Shane Carr, Kristina Kildoo and Kelly Chambers; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Schultz of Titusville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Schultz Hindman, who passed away Aug. 7, 2009. He was also preceded by a granddaughter, Lacey Hindman; daughter-in-law, Traci L. Hindman; and his only sister, Sally Holt.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home Inc., 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire (Butler County).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Donaldson, United Methodist minister, officiating.
Burial will follow in Eau Claire Cemetery.
Memorial services by VFW and American Legion posts of Parker will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Friday preceding the funeral.
