WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Opal E. Steele, 95, of Westerville, Ohio, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, after a brief illness.

She was born June 7, 1918, in St. Joe, Ohio, to the late William and Elva Gatton Clark. Opal moved to Meadville at a young age and lived there until moving to Westerville a few years ago to be close to her family.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and retired as a cook from Meadville Area Junior High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas A. Steele; four brothers and four sisters; and a grandson, Adam Stoica.

Opal is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Roger) McPhaden, Barbara Steele-Trower and Jacqueline Steele; and son, William (Gail) Steele; granddaughters, Lori (Tim) Rolph and Amy (Jeff) Ellison; grandsons, John (Katherine) McPhaden and Brent Stoica; great-grandchildren, Ian, Evan and Audrey McPhaden, Kevin, Allen and Brian Rolph, Faith and Cooper Ellison; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Family memorial services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
