SAEGERTOWN — Mary V. Hoke, 92, of 20881 Route 198, Saegertown, formerly of 639 Cutler St., Meadville, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Mary was born in New York, N.Y., on April 27, 1921, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ducie O’Brien.

On April 6, 1943, Mary married Robert C. Hoke; he preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 2009.

She was an active member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. For several years she volunteered her time and talents to the church in many capacities, including singing in the church choir, counting the collections and working the fish dinners.

While living in New York, Mary was employed by AT&T. In 1945 Mary moved to Meadville where she raised her family and lived the remainder of her life. She was a member of the Meadville Rescue Squad Auxiliary. She loved being a homemaker and devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and church. She volunteered at the Meadville Community Soup Kitchen, as a lunch lady at Seton School cafeteria and at the Meadville Area Senior High School football concession stand where she was well known as the “nacho lady.” Mary enjoyed traveling abroad as well as within the United States.

Mary is survived by five children, Mary Jessey and her husband, Joe, Eileen Watson, Robert P. Hoke and his wife, Elaine, and Nick Hoke and his wife, Laurie, all of Meadville, Bill Hoke and Paula Putney of Canton, N.C.; 18 grandchildren, Ashley Benhart, Aaron and Matthew Jessey, Alexis and Teylor Pearson, Tucker Watson, Brian Myers, Shawn, Jason, Andrew, Darcy, Adam and Caleb Hoke, Andrea Carr, Michelle Kearns, Heidi Dugan, Dustin Putney-Hoke and Dan Williams; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Pete Hoke and his wife, Harriet, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Robert, of 66 years, Mary was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Being the last of the O’Briens, Mary was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters which included Tom, Margaret, Anna, Helen, Agnes and a twin infant brother.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 8:30.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Father Johnathan Schmolt, pastor of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, and Father Marc Solomon, pastor of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, as celebrants.

Interment will take place in St. Agatha Cemetery, West Mead Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meadville Community Soup Kitchen, 956 S. Main St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or Alzheimer’s Association of Northwest Pennsylvania, 1128 State St., Suite 301, Erie, Pa. 16501.
