John Longiotti

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, Mercer County — John Longiotti, 79, of 165 Oniontown Road, Delaware Township, went home to be with the Lord after a three-month illness at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Hartstown on July 30, 1934, to the late, Alessandro and Maria Donato (Sbrocchi) Longiotti.

He was a member of Christian Assembly Church, 111 Main St., Greenville, for 45 years. At the church, he served as a treasurer and trustee for 30 years.

He was a 1952 graduate of Pymatuning Jamestown High School. From 1954 to 1958, he was an airman first class for the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Bessemer Lake Erie Railroad, Greenville. From 1965 to 1983, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Greenville. He was also a service technician from 1983 to 1999 at the U.S. Post Office in New Castle.

John enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a sports fan, and especially liked to watch football, baseball and hockey. He loved crossword puzzles. Once a month, he met with the Pymatuning Jamestown High School Alumni Breakfast Club in Jamestown. Every morning, he would meet friends at the local McDonald’s for coffee. He was very social and active.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, at home, Peggy Louise (Harpst) Longiotti. They were married on July 20, 1957. Also surviving are a son, Doug Longiotti and his wife, Dee, of Painesville, Ohio; two daughters, Darla Somerville and her husband, Dennis, of West Sunbury, and Vicki Vamosi and her husband, Steve, of Sharpsville; five sisters, Josephine Wilson of Texas, Ruth Brown of Minnesota, Teresa Longiotti of South Carolina, Rose Brockelhurst of Meadville and Natalie Knopp of Aurora, Ohio, and a twin brother, Pete Longiotti of Greenville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frankie Longiotti; and two sisters, Mary Radicella and Florence Girardeau.

A memorial service will be held at Christian Assembly Church Inc., 111 Main St., Greenville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with Pastors Dan and Andrew Farina of Christian Assembly Church in Greenville officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christian Assembly Church, 111 Main St., Greenville, Pa. 16125.
