HADLEY — Kenneth R. Roberts, 88, of Hadley (Deer Creek Township) passed away at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at his residence following a period of failing health.
Mr. Roberts was born in Kennard on Dec. 1, 1919, a son of the late Frank Leroy and Ethyl Mae (Palm) Roberts. On Aug. 25, 1941 he married the former Helen Irene Peterson, who survives.
Mr. Roberts had served with the United States Army from 1938 to 1940 and then, following the start of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1945.
He had operated a saw mill with his brother, Raymond, and had subsequently went on to be employed at Goddard State Park from the time of its opening until 1984, when he retired as a Labor Foreman.
He was a former member of the Hadley Rod and Gun Club and was of the Protestant faith.
He enjoyed raising horses and had been a harness racer for many years, both professionally and at the local area fairs. His hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing, and raising fox terriers and German short-hair dogs.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by a son, Garry Roberts and his wife, Jeanette, of Hadley; a daughter, Victoria Huston and her husband, Joe, of Hadley; four sisters, Ruby Clark of Hadley, Dorothy Gravatt of Clarks Mills, Ivarea Campbell and her husband, Merle, of Hadley and Treva Bratek and her husband, William, of Hadley; two brothers, Robert (Alfred) Roberts of Hadley and Donald Roberts and his wife, Janet, of Saegertown; seven grandchildren, Sherry Becker and her husband, Steve, of Clarks Mills, Theresa Reed of Clarks Mills, Renee Gall and her husband, Richard, of Hadley, Kenneth Roberts and his wife, Cathy, of Clarks Mills, Kelly Coulter and her husband, Randy, of Hadley, Korry Huston of Hadley and Whitney Huston of Hadley; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl Smith and Lois Rhea; seven brothers, Floyd Roberts, Malcolm Roberts, Leroy Roberts, Raymond Roberts, Clifford Roberts and John Roberts; and an infant brother.
Friends may call at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home, Ltd., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral and committal service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Lamb, pastor of the Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, officiating.
