CORRY — James W. Adams Sr., 71, of West Smith Street Extension, Corry, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie.
Mr. Adams was born Feb. 28, 1938, a son of the late Arthur and Wilma Walker Adams.
He was raised and educated in North Clymer, N.Y., graduating from Clymer High School in 1956. Throughout his career as a truck driver, Mr. Adams worked at Clymer Bag Co., Consolidated Freight Ways and then for Crestline Window Co. until his retirement.
He was a member of Corry Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of Corry Moose Lodge and the Siebenbuerger Club in Erie and was a former member of Corry Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Adams was an avid ham radio operator and was a member and past president of the Radio Amateur’s of Corry, where he was better known as WT30.
He also enjoyed woodcarving, attending antique car shows and taking rides in his Mercury Grand Marquis. Over the years, Mr. Adams was a participant in the National Field Day event at Mead Park and JOTA (Jamboree On the Air), where he enjoyed teaching Boy Scouts about operating ham radios. They awarded him an honorary membership for his many years of volunteering.
Mr. Adams especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marian Spinks, Donna Little and Cora Belle Hulett; and a half brother, Claude Adams.
Mr. Adams is survived by two daughters, Peggy Sue Semian and her companion, Dave Hoogstad Sr., of Linesville, and Dr. Julie Martin and her husband, Scott of Pittsfield; a son, James Adams Jr. and his companion, Tammy Fiscus of Frewsburg, N.Y.; and a sister, Arlene Jukes of Pittsfield. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Carol Wilcox of Elgin; eight grandchildren, Aaron and Grace Semian, Shane, Jesse, Jamie, Sadie and Jordyn Martin and Katie Adams; and by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Bracken Funeral Home, Corry, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Phillip Gilmore officiating.
Burial will be in Clymer Center Cemetery, Chautauqua County, N.Y.
