Daniel John Magruder, 63, of Meadville and St. Petersburg, Fla., passed into eternal rest Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at his Florida home in St. Petersburg.
Daniel was born Nov. 19, 1944, in Meadville, to the late Lewis Frederick and Keith Weaver Magruder. He was married to Patricia Ann Pardee Oct. 16, 1965, at St. Paul’s United Church in Meadville. He was pre-deceased by his parents, in 2000 and 1958, respectively.
Daniel is survived by three of his children and their spouses, John Daniel Magruder and Nina Ruth Smith Adams of Aiken, S.C., Mark William and Julie Chatfield Magruder and their two children, Tristan Fox Magruder and Matthew Brendan Magruder, of Riverview, Fla., and Stephanie Lynn Magruder of Seffner, Fla. He is pre-deceased by his youngest son, Matthew Lewis Magruder. His brothers, Walter H. Magruder of Roanoke, Texas, and Frederick F. Magruder of Lexington, Ky., also survive Daniel, along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Daniel worked for IBM Corp. for many years and lived at various times in Meadville; Canton, Ohio; Pittsburgh; Lubbock, Texas; and Tampa-St. Pete, Fla.
He was a member of the Meadville Club and an associate member of Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of the International Clan Gregor Society and (by relation) the Sons of the American Revolution through his son, John, and patriot ancestor, Haswell.
He loved all types of sports, having played football for the Meadville High School Bulldogs, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends most of all.
Daniel was a cancer survivor who was successfully treated for Hodgkin’s disease in his younger years to the point of full remission. He lived far beyond the original predictions at the time of his diagnosis through an aggressive treatment of chemo- and radiation therapy during the 1960s and 1970s.
Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville, will handle final arrangements and Daniel will be interred in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
Memorial service will be conducted Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, should be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
