GUYS MILLS — William W. Singleton, 73, of 29020 Guys Mills Road, Guys Mills, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009, at Meadville Medical Center.

Mr. Singleton was born in Meadville on July 8, 1935, a son of the late Getdins (GT) and Ida Mae Williams Singleton. On May 16, 1981, William married Annie Hairston Cooper; she survives.

He was a member of St. John’s Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, Meadville, where he served as a church trustee.

After 32 years of service, William retired from the New York State Department of Agriculture. Following his retirement, he moved back to Pennsylvania from New York, where he had lived for many years. A coach for more than 19 years, William coached ninth-grade basketball and softball for Maplewood School and had coached girls softball for Jamestown School. A U.S. Army veteran, William served his country from Aug. 2, 1954, until his honorable discharge on Aug. 2, 1956.

In addition to his wife, Annie, of 28 years, William is survived by two daughters, Debbie Bostic of New York, and Yvonne O’Donnell of Bay Shore, N.Y.; a son, William Singleton Jr. of New York; a stepson, Rodney Michael Seaton of New York; five grandchildren; a sister, Gladys L. Johnson of Meadville; three brothers, Ken Singleton of Queens, N.Y., Harry Singleton of Washington, D.C., and Robert Singleton of Raleigh, N.C., a stepbrother, William Higgs of Jacksonville, N.C.; four stepsisters, Ethelda Meyers and Margaret Buckner, both of Erie, Philomena Jenkins of South Orange, N.J., and Carmella McLaurin Pope of Guys Mills; and a host of nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. John’s Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, 792 N. Main St., Meadville, where a Home Coming Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with Bishop Stanley K. Smith, pastor, officiating.

Interment will take place with full military honors in Roselawn Cemetery, Meadville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
