SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Aldo W. Canfield, 96, formerly of Meadville, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was born in New Richmond on June 16, 1913, and graduated from Cambridge Springs High School.
In 1947, he married Doris Dorman of Union City; she survives.
Canfield was employed at Talon Inc. for 18 years and was the general foreman of the tool department before he left to co-found Canto Tool Co. and Layke Tool Co. In 1955, he moved to Phoenix, where he established Layke Inc.
He was among the first toolmakers inducted into the Tool Hall of Fame in Meadville.
Survivors besides his wife, Dee, are his daughter, Bonnie Hirschberg of Anthem, Ariz.; and two sons, Al Canfield of Meadow Vista, Calif., and Wayne Canfield of Birmingham, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Scottsdale at a later date.
