Ruth Williams Ott

Ruth Williams Ott, 87, of 529 Limber Road, Meadville, passed away at noon on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at her home.

Ruth was born in Meadville on Sept. 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Raymond P. and Angie (Perry) Williams.

She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Meadville High School and a lifelong resident of Meadville, except for a brief period during World War II when she lived in Amarillo, Texas, and worked on the assembly line at Pantex Corp., which was the only bomb-assembly plant in the United States. In 1977, she retired from the former Avtex Corp., which was formerly American Viscose, after 28 years of employment.

Ruth was a very warm and caring person. She was known for her sweet, gentle smile and unselfish ways. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Walleen M. Ott of Meadville and Beverly A. Mathey of Orrville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Todd R. Shockley and Katherine L. Shockley, both of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Olive Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was one of four children, and the last survivor of her siblings. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Martha J. North; and two brothers, Edwin P. Williams and Bernard Williams.

Visitation will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, at 10 a.m. Monday, with Father Mark O’Hern, pastor of St. Brigid, officiating.

Interment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home, 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.

Condolences may be e-mailed to miznerfuneralhome@zoominternet.net.
