Norma Jean Crays



CONNEAUTVILLE — Norma Jean Crays, 78, of 9108 State Highway 198, Conneautville, formerly of 16254 Harmonsburg Road, Meadville, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at Rolling Fields, Conneautville.

Norma was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 18, 1931, a daughter of the late Joe D. and Estella Wilcox Matthews. On Sept. 19, 1953, Norma married Thomas Wayne Crays; he preceded her in death on March 9, 2004.

Following her 1949 graduation from high school in Hilliard, Ohio, Norma attended business school in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to her marriage to Tom, she was employed by White Castle Restaurant in Columbus.

A 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Norma was also involved in Cub Scouts and 4-H. Norma’s family was very important to her as she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.

Norma is survived by four children, Joyce Hileman and her husband, Bill, of Tavares, Fla., Carol Strong and her husband, Tom, of Colorado, Tim Crays and his wife, Carol, of Saegertown, and Todd Crays of Akron, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Laura, Nancy, Marjorie, Ryan, Heather, Alicia, Adam, Alanna, Roxanne and Jason; six great-grandchildren, Robert, Koralyn, Oliver, Ruby, Lesel and Elise; and a son-in-law, Bill Tonn of Cambridge Springs.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Thomas, of 50 years, Norma was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Tonn; and a sister Joan VanSchoyck.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., (formerly known as Hunter Funeral Home, 330 Broad St., Saegertown).

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home, 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, with Pastor J. Temple Jarrell of New Beginnings Church of God officiating.

Interment will take place in Denny Cemetery, Hayfield Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
