EBENSBURG — James D. (Don) Stoy, 88, of Ebensburg, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

Born Aug. 10, 1919, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Lee and Mary Young Stoy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Doerr Stoy, in 2002; a brother, F. Lloyd Stoy; and a sister, Mildred Strong.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Green of Charlotte, N.C., and Linda, wife of Dean Grove, of Vinco; seven grandchildren, Doug and his wife Jill Davis, and Tracey Davis of Conneaut Lake, Bob and his wife Heidi Hanson of Williston, N.D., Jennifer and her husband Mark Stephens, and Jami Green of Charlotte; Tammy and her husband Mike Calpin of East Taylor, and Carrie and her husband Ben Kessler of Niceville, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Nick and Andrew Stephens, Amelia Calpin and Josh Hanson; a sister, Mary Elaine Lashinsky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don, along with his wife, owned and operated Portion-Pak Sales in Ebensburg for 25 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 363 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4963, both of Ebensburg; past District 20 commander; past county commander; and two-term past Post 363 commander. He served on the Advisory Board at Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home for more than 25 years, volunteering more than 3,200 hours of his time, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame.

He was committee chairman for the State American Legion; former vice president of Cambria County Fair Board for 10 years; a member of Conneaut Lake Park Volunteer Fire Department; and a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, where he had served as usher.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes. Inc., Ebensburg, where vigil prayer service will be held.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Church, with Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus as celebrant.

Committal will be in Holy Name Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by local veterans’ organizations.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home Recreation Committee, PO Box 319, Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.
