Vinson R. Carpenter, 95, a former Guys Mills resident, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville, died there Tuesday, May 13, 2008.
He was born in Randolph Township July 4, 1912, a son of Allen and Lilly Davison Carpenter. He married Helen I. Peterson Sept. 11, 1936; she preceded him in death July 8, 2007.
He retired in 1977 as a machinist at Talon Inc. after 38 years of service.
He attended Randolph public schools and enjoyed extensive traveling with his wife.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Byham and her husband, Rex, of Guys Mills; two sons, Allen D. Carpenter and his wife, Joyce, of Joplin, Mo., and Gordon R. Carpenter and his wife, Linda, of Meadville; a sister, Mabel Beers of Guys Mills; eight grandchildren, Barbara Byham, David Byham and his wife, Cindy, Richard Byham and his wife, Sandy, Dianne McCauley and her husband, Jim, Michael Byham and his wife, Jane, Douglas Byham and his wife, Doris, Samuel Carpenter and his wife, Courtney, and Michele Pardee and her husband, Tim; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gertrude Byham; a son-in-law, Ralph Byham; five brothers and two sisters.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
