COCHRANTON — Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Ferlin, 83, of Cochranton, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Ga.

Born May 16, 1924, in Dimock, she was a daughter of the late Douglas A. and Etheldred G. Taylor Mills.

She graduated from Tunkhannock High School, Wyoming County, in 1942, and from the Western Union Telegraph School in Washington, N.J. She began work at the Western Union Office in Meadville and also worked in the U.S. Navy Communications Department at Quonset Point, R.I. In 1984, she retired after 21 years of service with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Betty was a life-time member of the Meadville Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed attending Red Hat events in Florida and was affectionately known as “the Cookie Lady” in Lanark Village. One of her favorite pastimes was gardening. But her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Frank G. Ferlin; Betty and Frank were married July 10, 1944. She is also survived by her three children, Douglas E. Ferlin and his wife, Diana, of Manassas, Va., Karen L. Ensworth, formerly of Saegertown, and Linda J. Leonard of Cochranton; six grandchildren, Darla, Denise, Kyle, John, Lori and Rob; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Mills of Beverly Hills, Fla. A brother, James Mills, preceded her in death. She also leaves behind cousins and close friends.

The memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.

Private burial is scheduled for Sunday in the family plot in Greendale Cemetery.

On Feb. 2, her family and many friends attended a prior service at Lanark Community Church in Florida.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, Pa. 16335; or to a favorite charity.
