Published May 09, 2008 11:17 pm - LAKELAND, Fla. — Donald Leroy Hulsizer, 82, of 329 Albion Ave., Lakeland, Fla., died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at South Florida Baptist Hospital, after a short illness.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Donald Leroy Hulsizer, 82, of 329 Albion Ave., Lakeland, Fla., died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at South Florida Baptist Hospital, after a short illness.

He was born May 6, 1926, in Meadville, a son of Vernon and Pauline Hulsizer. On March 8, 1987, Don married Lorraine Francis (Van Tassel) Dodds. She survives. He previously married Helen Lucille Hart, and she preceded him in death in 1984.

He was employed by IBM of Erie and retired after 32 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was a member of Wayland Baptist Church of Meadville, and while in Lakeland, attended First Baptist Church in Plant City, Fla.

He enjoyed computers, archery, deer hunting, fishing, camping and recording music.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, of 21 years; two sisters, Harriett Whitley and her husband, Bill, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Marian Phelps and her husband, Gordon, of Meadville; a daughter, Darlene Sharp and her husband, Gary, of Caldwell, W.Va.; a son, Donnie Hulsizer and his wife, Linda, of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Sharon Cadle and her husband, Clayton, of St. Peter, Mo.; a son, Charles Dodds and his wife, Cheryl, of Fairview; a son, David Dodds and his wife, Barb, of Cochranton; a son, Kenneth Dodds and his wife, Patsy, of Front Royal, Va.; and a son, Russell Dodds and his wife, Darla, of Franklin. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Park Recreation Hall, Lakeland.

Cremation will follow.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 503 N. Palmer St., Plant City, Fla. 33563.
