CONNEAUT LAKE — James Arthur (Art) Fuller, 87, of PO Box 305, Conneaut Lake, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Rolling Fields, Conneautville, following a period of declining health. He had been a resident there for the past three years.
He was born in Crossingville March 30, 1921, a son of the late William W. and Mary E. Swaney Fuller. He married Dorothy Irene Huya Sept. 28, 1946.
A graduate of the former Edinboro High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945, primarily in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Art worked at Talon; Ernie’s Service Station, Cranesville; Mike Hoch Building Supply, Crossingville; was owner and operator of the Red and White Grocery Store, Conneaut Lake, from 1954 to 1965; and was a meat cutter from 1965 to 1985 at the Super Duper Grocery Store and its successors in the Park Avenue Plaza, Meadville.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, working jigsaw puzzles, playing cards with his grandchildren and watching sporting events.
He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church, Conneaut Lake, and was a former church usher.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Irene, of 61 years, include a son, Terry L. Fuller and his wife, Kathy, of Conneaut Lake; three grandchildren, Brent A. Fuller and his wife, Kristen, Kevin L. Fuller and his wife, Leigh, and Heather M. Fuller and her fiancé, Jason Tenney; four great-grandchildren, Sheyn, twins Kortni and Kylee, and Aidan; a brother, George A. Fuller and his wife, Barbara, of Cranesville; a sister, Ethel Bertram and her husband, R. David, of East Brady; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Blaine E. Fuller; a sister, Catherine Frndak; and three brothers, Walter, Gerald and Joel Fuller.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake, with a Scripture prayer service at 3:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake, with Father Steve Anderson as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville.
