Janice L. (Huffie) Hamill, 67, of Meadville, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Meadville Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Oil City, a daughter of Merl F. Huff and Eleanor Mae Pierce Huff. She married Earl W. Hamill May 11, 1974; he survives.
She was a 1958 graduate of Oil City High School and a 1961 graduate of Spencer Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a head nurse of a medical/surgical floor that changed to an oncology floor at Spencer Hospital. She continued as head nurse of the oncology floor of Meadville Medical Center through the consolidation of Spencer Hospital and Meadville City Hospital. She remained in this position until her retirement in 2001 after 40 years of service.
She was an avid horseback rider who owned horses and rode on many trail rides throughout Pennsylvania. She was an active member and officer of the Meadville Ski Club. Her last ski trip was to Utah in March 2008. She was an avid gardener; she grew, canned and gave away much produce throughout her life; on Sunday, April 27, 2008, she planted onions, beets and lettuce. She always owned dogs and her latest two, Charlee and Dazee, will miss her.
Survivors include her husband of almost 34 years, Earl W. Hamill of Meadville; a sister, Nancy Blank and her husband, Franklin, of Decatur, Texas; a brother, James Huff and his wife, Deborah, of Oil City; a stepson, Earl W. Hamill Jr. of McKean; a dear friend, Zeline Euler of Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The memorial service will be at a later date to be announced.
