MUNSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Walter O. Scully Jr., 81, of Munson Township, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Hillcrest Hospital, Mayfield Heights, Ohio. He was a resident of Munson Township for two years and was formerly of Meadville and North Ridgeville, Ohio.

He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio.

He worked in construction in the Cleveland area before his retirement Oct. 1, 1988.

He married Anna A. Ranallo in Cleveland Oct. 19, 1946; she preceded him in death Jan. 30, 2007.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Mr. Scully was a member of St. Hippolyte Catholic Church in Frenchtown.

He had an extensive garden that he and his wife tended, canning and freezing its bounty for many years. He enjoyed coin and gun collecting, fishing and boating. He was an avid NFL fan.

Survivors include two sons, Walter C. (Pamela) Scully of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lawrence L. Scully of Chardon, Ohio; a sister, Janice M. (Raymond) Sulak of Munson Township; and a brother, Thomas E. Scully of Espyville. He was a grandfather of seven, great-grandfather of four and uncle to many.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna A. Ranallo Scully; his parents, Walter O. Scully Sr. and Grace Bennett Scully; his stepmother, Mary M. Osterman Scully; and a brother, John O. Scully.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on State Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, with the Rev. Thomas Gilles of the church as celebrant.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
