LINESVILLE — Howard A. Sherretts, 85, of Linesville, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at his residence.

Born Feb. 20, 1923, in Linesville, he was a son of Harry and Florence Oates Sherretts. He married Elaine Headley June 27, 1947, in Greenup, Ky.

He was a member of Linesville United Methodist Church. He graduated from Linesville High School in 1941.

Howard served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1942 until 1945. In 1988, he retired as an engineer from North American Rockwell in Ashtabula, Ohio.

He was past master of Pine Masonic Lodge 498 in Linesville. He was a lifetime member of Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842 and Linesville American Legion Post 462.

Howard was an avid golfer and bowler and was inducted into the Western Crawford County Bowling Hall of Fame. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and card games.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elaine Sherretts; many nieces and nephews; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Blanche Headley of Linesville, Jean Campbell of Andover, Joyce Cotton of Harmonsburg, Dwayne and Maxine Headley of Linesville, and Susan Shunkwiler of Linesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Cuban.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joy Blackburn of Linesville United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Special Olympics of Crawford County, 222 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
