Kailynn Noon, a 2008 graduate of Meadville High School, started playing soccer when she was 5.
Since then, she has played on over a dozen youth, indoor, and travel soccer teams. Those experiences have led her to NCAA Division II Edinboro University, where she plans to play in the fall.

SLIDESHOW: The stink returns to Meadville
“We still don’t know what caused it,” Capt. Evan Hasko of Meadville Central Fire Department said of Friday’s incident. “We’re lucky it’s staying within the sewer system and not going into people’s homes.”
“We’re going to have to regroup Monday and see what we have,” said Joe Chriest, Meadville’s city manager, who was called to the scene Saturday.
One person was taken to Meadville Medical Center for evaluation during Saturday night’s incident and still was undergoing treatment for a respiratory ailment as of press time.

New Vision Quest facility gives residents mixed emotions
GUYS MILLS — With phase one renovations to the dormitory almost complete, the new Vision Quest facility near Blooming Valley is preparing for the first contingent of 17- to 19-year-old youths from Franklin to arrive in September.

The NAACP hosted this year’s June 19 celebration — “Freedom Rings: Remembering the Past, Celebrating the Future” — at at Diamond Park in Meadville. The event included historical interpreters, cultural and educational presentations, music, artifacts, picnic food, games and more.
“The celebration is for everyone who values freedom and unity,” NAACP chapter President Sam Byrd said recently. “Residents of this area are the heirs of a proud American legacy, and we hope for a good turnout to publicly celebrate our unity as sisters and brothers in one nation under God.”

McKofka is one of the many veterans who will be attending Memorial Day observances today throughout Crawford County and the nation.
The services are important, he said. “These young people don’t know what it’s all about,” he said, noting it’s “fools like us that have to go out and show them.” He said he will probably attend Meadville’s observance.
McKofka enlisted in the Navy in 1940 from Phillipsburg at the of 18 or 19, he said.

The Oncology Wellness Institute opened its doors Tuesday. The facility offers a whole-person approach to cancer treatment in one location.
Meadville Medical Center’s previous oncology treatment center at its Liberty Street building didn’t offer radiation therapy. Those patients either had to go to the Regional Cancer Center’s facility on Park Avenue or to an out-of-town hospital.
