Info on I-79 crash vehicles released

MEADVILLE — Pennsylvania State Police, Meadville barracks, have released information on five of seven vehicles involved in a traffic-snarling crash scene Tuesday on Interstate 79’s northbound lanes in Cussewago Township, about five miles north of the Saegertown/Conneautville exit.

In one of two reports filed Wednesday, PSP said three semi-tractor trailors were damaged. A semi driven by John Kozaczkiewicz, 51, of Kitchner, Ontario, stopped as he was approaching another crash, and one driven by James Seelinger, 50, of Erie, was stopped behind Kozaczkiewicz. A third semi, driven by Janet Massengill, 48, of Princeton, N.C., then struck Seelinger’s rig, which was forced into Kozaczkiewicz’s. The Kozaczkiewicz semi received minor damage, the other two were heavily damaged.

Seelinger was transported to Erie’s UPMC Hamot medical center by ambulance for injuries sustained in the crash. A nursing supervisor at UPMC Hamot said he was treated and released from the emergency department.

The trucks crashed at 1:04 p.m. One minute earlier, police reports say, a vehicle driven by Jeremy Snelgrove, 24, of Fairport, N.Y., went out of control on the snow- and ice-covered roadway, struck a guard rail, continued to spin out of control, and then hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Jennifer Simmons, 42, of Erie. Both vehicles came to rest of the east side of the roadway, facing north.

Neither driver was injured; Snelgrove faces charges of driving too fast for conditions.

Police were assisted by Hayfield and Edinboro volunteer fire departments and ambulance services.

Earlier in the day, at 10 a.m., a vehicle driven by Megan L. Bush, 28, of Erie had crashed in the same vicinity of the I-79 northbound lanes. She suffered a minor injury when her car left the roadway and struck an embankment and a tree, coming to rest on its roof. She faces charges of driving too fast for conditions.
