Adamsville man killed in Route 62 collision

SANDY LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mercer County — Joseph John Ferraro Jr., 59, of Pitts Road, Adamsville, died Tuesday as the results of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident on Route 62 in Sandy Lake Township at approximately 3:17 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Mercer barracks, a minivan driven by Dennis John Cyphert of Tionesta was traveling north on Route 62 negotiating a right curve when he lost control due to weather conditions and his vehicle traveled into the oncoming travel lane, striking Ferraro’s southbound car head-on.

State police report that Cyphert’s minivan spun around and came to rest facing south in the northbound lane while Ferraro’s car spun around and struck the guardrail with the rear of the vehicle before coming to rest facing north in the southbound lane with the rear of the vehicle hung up on the guardrail.

Ferraro was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 p.m. by Robert L. Snyder, Mercer County deputy coroner. Snyder announced Wednesday that the death was ruled accidental as the result of blunt force trauma to the trunk.

All occupants were wearing seat belts; a passenger in Cyphert’s vehicle, Christopher Thomas Neidich of Cranberry, sustained a minor injury.

Police were assisted at the scene by Life Force helicopter and the Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
