Police say alcohol involved in Sunday night Hunter Hill Road rollover

ERIE — A Meadville man is listed in serious condition at an Erie hospital following a one-truck crash late Sunday in East Mead Township.

Thomas James Conrad, 42, was driving east on Hunter Hill Road at 9:20 p.m. at an apparently very high rate of speed when his 1984 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck left the road off the south berm, dropped into a deep ditch, struck a culvert, went back into the ditch and then hit another culvert, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The truck then flipped end over end, rolled, and came to rest on its left side in the middle of the road.

Conrad was found lying on the road to the east of his truck, police said. He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Hamot in Erie, where he currently is being treated and is in serious condition as of Monday night, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and it is believed that alcohol was involved.

PSP was assisted at the scene by East Mead and West Mead firefighters and fire police.
