Make A Difference Day phone lines open Wednesday

MEADVILLE — Telephone lines will be open Wednesday for the United Way of Western Crawford County’s 20th Annual Make A Difference Day, allowing for project submissions and volunteer registration. This partnership between the United Way, The Meadville Tribune, The Meadville Medical Center and Allegheny College continues to make a huge impact on western Crawford County through this annual day of service.

Western Crawford County’s Make A Difference Day is Oct. 19.

Each year, more than 1,000 volunteers come together to complete more than 125 projects, doing everything from leaf raking to construction, helping those who otherwise cannot have the work done. Those residents of western Crawford County who have projects they would like to have completed by Make A Difference Day crews may call the hotline through Sept. 25 at 724-5948 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Organizers would like to note that they will not accept any roofing projects this year and that there is a limited capacity for any new skilled projects such as ramps or significant home repairs due to the existing list of projects. They also stress that submitting a project doesn’t guarantee the work will be done.

Volunteers must visit work sites to assess the safety and the scope of the work before determining if a project will be accepted. They must also determine if the recipient of the assistance cannot otherwise afford to have the work completed. These projects are all completed by volunteers and are financed through donations, so there are limitations to what can be done.

Potential Make A Difference Day volunteers are also asked to call 724-5948 starting Thursday through Sept. 23 to register their teams and be assigned a project.

Project and volunteer registration forms will also be available at uwaywestcc.org online.

Those who have extra materials (paint, construction materials, brushes, gloves, rakes, hammers, ladders, wood, shovels, etc.) and would like to donate them to the United Way of Western Crawford County for Make A Difference Day are to call Jocelyn at 337-1251.
