Man dies in logging accident in Rockdale

ROCKDALE TOWNSHIP — A 50-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in northern Crawford County when he was struck by a falling tree, according to Scott Schell, the county coroner.

The victim was identified as Doug Brown, who was fatally injured around 4 p.m. at a property along Watson Road in Rockdale Township, Schell said.

Brown was working with his father felling trees on the property with a tractor at the time of the incident, according to the coroner.

Brown was operating a tractor to pull a tree down when the tree became wedged against a second tree, Schell said. The second tree then fell over, landing on top of Brown.

Schell ruled Brown’s death accidental due to multiple blunt-force trauma.
