A boater who ended up in the waters of Crystal Lake near Hartstown around 1 p.m. Tuesday was quickly rescued.
Calls for a water rescue were put out by the Crawford County 911 after one person was reported in the water after falling out of a canoe.
However, according to Chief Adam Valesky of Fallowfield Volunteer Fire Department, “a neighbor went out in his canoe and brought the guy back in.” He was returned to shore near the Crystal Lake Trailer Park.
Neither the identity nor the hometown of the male boater, who had been in the canoe alone, was available. “We’re not sure what caused him to fall out, but he was wearing a life jacket,” Valesky said.
Fallowfield Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Conneaut Lake Area Ambulance Service. Although the ambulance service had been called to the scene, the canoeist was out of the water before Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department and divers from Crawford County Scuba Team arrived.
