After more than three decades of service on the board of directors of the Crawford County Fair, Ivan G. Rose plans to step down, effective at the end of the year.
The fair board unanimously accepted Rose’s resignation with regret at the board’s meeting Thursday.
“Together with each of you, I share the pride in all of the accomplishments we have made at the Crawford County Fair during my tenure as fair director,” Rose wrote in his letter jointly addressed to both the board and county commissioners. “It has been with great pleasure that I have worked these past 33 years with the commissioners, fair board, staff, volunteers, vendors and the public to achieve one of the finest fairs in the state of Pennsylvania!”
“So it is with great sadness that l recognize that it is time for me to step aside in this role which has been one of my life’s highlights in order to allow someone else to enjoy the opportunity to serve the county in that capacity,” Rose wrote.
Rose made his resignation effective Dec. 31, 2013, to give the fair board time to nominate a replacement for 2014.
Nomination of a replacement will come from the fair board but must be approved Crawford County Board of Commissioners, which appoints members to the fair board.
Rose’s current five-year term on the fair board expires Dec. 31, 2014, according to Anne Hall, the fair board’s recording secretary.
The fair board plans to name Rose, a former fair board president and a former elected Crawford County commissioner, an honorary member of the fair board.
“Ivan always did a good job on the board,” Walter “Boots” Dunn, president of the fair board, said. “He knows everybody all over the country.”
The fair board must fill the seat with a representative from eastern Crawford County since Rose is from the Spartansburg and Centerville areas. The fair board has representation by regions of the county.
Information on how residents in the eastern part of Crawford County interested in serving on the fair board may submit letters of interest is to be released within the next few days, Hall said.
