Meadville area customers regaining power after disruption

Part of a tree falling on a distribution line disrupted electricity for more than 800 Pennsylvania Electric Co. customers Wednesday afternoon in Vernon Township and Meadville.

“All customers should have their power restored by tonight,” Bill Jerin, Penelec spokesman in Erie, said about two hours after the disruption began.

The outage happened at 2:08 p.m. when a part of a tree landed on a distribution line along Rogers Ferry Road in Vernon Township, north of the Meadville Area Water Authority’s plant, Jerin said.

The outage affected 825 customers in Vernon Township and the Fifth Ward area of Meadville, Jerin said. By 3:30 p.m., the number affected was down to 100 customers and 46 by 4:30 p.m., Jerin said.
