MEADVILLE — The chief executive officer of the Meadville-Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce is stepping down from the post later this month.

Kathleen Bishop, the president and CEO of the Chamber since Dec. 1, 2009, is leaving the job, effective May 24, to take another job in Florida.

“It’s an opportunity I could not pass up,” Bishop said Tuesday afternoon. However, Bishop said she wasn’t at liberty yet to name her new job.

Bishop and her husband, Raymond, moved to the Meadville area in late November 2009. She became the new president of the Meadville-Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce, succeeding Charlie Anderson, who had retired.

Prior to her arrival in Meadville, Bishop was president and chief executive officer of the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce in Palm Bay, Fla., for five years. It’s a chamber with seven municipalities and more than 800 members.

Bishop will miss many aspects of the Meadville and western Crawford County area, but especially the members of the local Chamber, she said.

“There area a lot of great folks in the community who want to make this a better place,” Bishop said. “We’ve made a lot of friends here. Love going to auctions, produce auctions and going to the Second Saturday programs at the Market House during the summer.”

Toni Frisina, chair of the board of directors for Meadville-Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce, said the board wishes Bishop well in future endeavors.

“During her time with the Chamber of Commerce, Kathleen has implemented some outstanding events in the community, specifically Leadership Meadville (a young leaders development program), the Chili Chowder Cookoff and the media auction,” Frisina said.

Other significant milestones under Bishop’s leadership include the movement toward the accreditation process for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and installing the Chamber Master software program, Frisina said.

The board of directors has formed a search committee to find a replacement for Bishop, according to Frisina.
