Refuse-collection route delayed in Meadville

MEADVILLE — A mechanical breakdown and slippery roadways kept Tri-County Industries, the City of Meadville’s refuse and recycling hauler, from completing its Friday refuse-collection route.

“Recycling was completed today on schedule,” Rick Williams, the city’s planning and development director, reported late Friday morning. “The plan is for all residents who were missed to place their refuse at the curb for a Monday pick up.”

According to Williams, delays caused by the breakdown of a truck combined with traction difficulties to result in the driver being unable to complete the route without exceeding the maximum number of hours on the road allowed for holders of commercial driver’s licenses in Pennsylvania.

Refuse collection was completed in approximately half the normal Friday pickup area, with most of the missed collections concentrated in the center portion of the route.

“Tri County of course is very unhappy that this happened again, especially on the same route (where residents recently experienced similar refuse pickup problems),” Williams reported.
