Dan Walk has been named assistant editor of The Meadville Tribune by Jim Galantis, the newspaper’s publisher.
As assistant editor, Walk will be responsible for assignments, copy editing and page design and will report to Pat Bywater, the Tribune's executive editor. Walk replaces Ed Mailliard, who recently retired after more than 40 years of service with the newspaper.
“While Dan is in a new role at paper, he has a variety of experiences which will serve him and our readers well,” Galantis said in making the announcement.
“Dan is stepping into a new position, but his well-rounded background will make it a seamless transition,” Bywater said.
Walk has been a reporter, sports writer and columnist, copy editor and page designer since joining the Tribune in July 2011.
The Erie native joined the Tribune staff from The Punxsutawney Spirit, where he worked as sports editor from late 2006 until July 2011. While at Punxsutawney, Walk had various duties and won a 2010 Pennsylvania Associated Press award.
Walk had experience as a reporter and sports editor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania’s Spectator campus newspaper. He also served as a sports intern at the Tribune in the summer of 2006 before graduating from EUP with a degree in print journalism.
“I’m excited about the new challenges I will be facing as assistant editor,” Walk said. “At the end of each day, I just want to provide the public with the best product possible.”
