Chance Maurice Henry wasn’t due until Friday, but as the New Year’s Eve excitement grew in New York City’s Times Square, the City of Meadville’s First Baby of 2013 apparently decided there was no time like the present.
“When the ball dropped, the baby dropped,” the newborn’s mom recalled with a smile as she cradled her son in their room at Meadville Medical Center, where the birth took place at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday.
The First Parents of 2013 are Meadville residents Shawn Henry and Nicole Fulmer.
Weighing in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 21 inches long, Chance is the couple’s first child. He was not, however, their first try. “He’s a miracle baby,” Henry said. “After four miscarriages, just when we gave up hope, there he is.”
The baby’s middle name was given in honor of Henry’s own dad, who passed away in 2006, and his first name is a tribute to the miracle of his birth. “We tried to have babies and it never worked out,” Henry, who grew up in Meadville, continued. “One day he just chanced it — and was conceived.”
“We’re extremely happy to have an extremely happy and healthy baby,” agreed Fulmer, a Cambridge Springs-area native.
As of Wednesday night, the wait for Titusville Area Hospital’s first baby of 2013 continued.
